Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is unlike any other park in Tanzania. There are no game drives here — instead, you explore on foot through one of Africa's most biodiverse rainforests . The park forms part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, an ancient chain of forest-covered mountains recognised internationally for their exceptional biodiversity .

The highlight of any visit is the trail to Sanje Falls, one of Tanzania's tallest waterfalls with a spectacular three-tier drop of 170 meters. The hike takes 3-4 hours and winds through lush rainforest, passing giant fig trees, mountain streams, and natural swimming pools .

Udzungwa is a primate paradise. The park is home to several endemic species found nowhere else on earth, including the Iringa red colobus and the Sanje mangabey . Over 400 bird species have been recorded here, making it a premier birdwatching destination.

This park offers a completely different experience from Tanzania's savannah safari parks. It's the perfect addition to a Southern Circuit safari for travelers seeking active adventure, rainforest scenery, and encounters with rare endemic wildlife.
