Mikumi National Park Safari

Mikumi National Park, established in 1964, is Tanzania's fifth-largest national park and one of the most accessible safari destinations from Dar es Salaam. Its location and abundance of wildlife make it an ideal stop for travelers seeking a classic African safari experience.

The park is dominated by the Mkata Floodplain, a wide open savannah often compared to the Serengeti. This landscape is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, and antelopes. The park is also a haven for bird lovers, with over 400 species recorded.

A unique feature of Mikumi is that the A-7 highway passes directly through the park, allowing for easy access and sightings of wildlife along the roadside. The park is also home to a resident hippo pool where visitors can observe these magnificent creatures at close range. Rare sightings include wild dogs and leopards.

Mikumi offers a true wilderness experience with its open landscapes and abundant wildlife. It's an excellent introduction to Tanzania's southern circuit and a rewarding destination for both first-time and experienced safari-goers.
